At Wellshead, we understand the challenges of producing food while safeguarding our environment. Our approach balances agricultural productivity with ecological responsibility, constantly seeking new ways to reduce our environmental impact.
We've adopted regenerative, minimum-till farming practices to reduce carbon release and foster a healthy soil biome. Our Bokashi composting system enriches our soil naturally, reducing the need for chemically-intensive industrial fertilisers.
After carefully reviewing what can be done to enhance the estate, we've started several new initiatives. We are actively creating new ponds, managing our existing woodlands, planting even more trees, and adjusting our farming practices. These efforts all aim to reduce local flooding and soil erosion while further enhancing our natural biodiversity.
While our current carbon audit indicates we're close to neutral, thanks largely to our extensive woodlands, we're not stopping there. We've installed battery charging stations across the farm, and are exploring the introduction of electric farm vehicles to further reduce our emissions and push towards a net-positive impact.
We're always exploring new ways to enhance our environmental and conservation efforts. These include: Trialing alternatives to industrial fertilisers; exploring rewilding and rewetting projects; and conducting regular butterfly surveys to monitor biodiversity
"At Wellshead, we know that responsible farming and environmental conservation go hand in hand. Our journey towards sustainability is ongoing, and we're committed to being part of the solution for a greener future in the Southwest and beyond."
